Then, write down each subtopic covered in order to prove that topic sentence (you might have one, you might have two, you might have more). Then write down the evidence given to PROVE the argument about that subtopic. If you have no evidence written down when you get your Reverse Outline back, that should tell you where to focus your efforts in your current draft and going forward. 3) Finally, since we are not meeting in person to take the open-note APA test, I have put it into a Google Forms test. You must complete the test in one sitting and complete it by midnight tonight. Remember this this is an open-note test and not an open-friend test. If I hear that you have collaborated answers in any way (over the phone, taking it together, etc), you will both have to take an alternative test in my classroom. If I can PROVE collaboration, you will earn a zero on this assignment worth 10% of your course grade. You will turn in your APA worksheet packet first thing in class on Wednesday

Rhetorical Analysis practice: Remember that a Rhetorical Analysis is just an argument about how EFFECTIVE or INEFFECTIVE someone else is at making an argument. Think of when you argue with girlfriend/boyfriend, parents, or friends and you carefully apart his/her argument and show where he/she is wrong, give alternative reasons or examples, or nod your head in agreement. You are, in essence, doing just that on paper for this assignment. For example, watch this commercial.
While this commercial does not provide much in terms of logical statistics to support the use of the product (and I would point that out as something inefficient in the commercial to convince me) and it does not address any alternative position (again, a flaw-- USE those 12 questions we practiced with), it IS effective in its use of pathos (the images of children and the examples of scenarios bring back the viewers own memories and disappointments) but ultimately creates its most effective rhetorical move in the use of the shock with the viewer in the final moments of the commercial. Each of those 4 elements would represent a complete paragraph. For your use of a second source, you can find another source that agree with the one you are analyzing to see if the author provided the STRONGEST examples/reasons for support. Your second source could be one which disagrees with the one you are analyzing to see if the author fully addressed counterargument. Additionally, your second source could be outside research you do on the author to find out his/her own credentials and background to find out how credible he/she is. Finally, your second source could provide a context for the conversation that your article addressed (i.e. what people are currently saying in our society about ______ topic). You ONLY have to include two sources but you MAY use far more.
Wednesday 1/25 and Thursday 1/26:
1) APA review of homework worksheets (APA open-note test next class after review of final practice)
